My family had no idea what the place was like when I was left here. We lived down the road from a Teen Challenge that was nothing like this. It was full of girls 11-18 going here instead of juvie for battery, drug charges, etc. Fights were common. Girls would sit up at night using erasers on themselves. All the staff that were there during my time ended up being fired for having affairs with the youth pastor, drug issues. The food was donated from the food bank that was close to expiration. We ate milk on many occasion. Yes, ate. Brown orange juice and oatmeal with works in it. The health inspections were not surprise. We knew the day and would deep clean the kitchen the day of. Girls who were sick were never taken to hospital or seen by a doctor. One girl broke her leg and it took a full week before her parents came to get her and take her to a doctor. It took my family a good few weeks to have me get taken to a hospital to have my heart monitor checked. I know of three girls who "graduated" and killed themselves. I have nightmares of that place 10 years later. All of the 30+ girls I keep in contact with from there say the same. The staff were so I'll trained to deal with issues and no one could talk about any personal things to anyone. I could go on and on. It was bad.
If you are looking for a safe place to help your daughter get on track, please, I beg you as now a mom of two girls... this is not a safe place regardless of what the staff try to convince you of. This did not save me. This did not save anyone. The few girls who did ok when they left did so inspite of it. Many went right back to their destructive behaviors and the younger were worse because they were exposed to girls who should've gone to juvie or inpatient facilities for mental health.
This is a wonderful program I have been involved with first hand for many years. The girls are are surprisingly well behaved and the staff do a great job at running a structured and fun environment for all the girls. I would highly recommend this program to anyone that needs it.
I am so grateful for Teen Challenge and what it has done in my life, and how God has used it! When I was 14, my life at home was a disaster - I was tearing myself and my family apart.My parents had already sent me to therapists and doctors and nothing had helped. As a last resort they reached out to Teen Challenge.
I am so excited and blessed that my daughter completed teen challenge. Teen challenge stepped in for my daughter when my family was out of options. We found teen challenge and they assisted the transformation. When I turned my daughter over to the group of people at teen challenge it was scary as I was unsure what to expect, but felt a sense of peace. However the wonderful staff and counselors guided not only my daughter but the family through the program. Although difficult at times, it was worth every day that my daughter was there learning, growing in faith, and learning to love herself. I would recommend teen challenge to those families who feel that they are not sure where to turn, and have a daughter who has life controlling issues. With the assistance of teen challenge and the faith in Jesus Christ working through them, your child will be transformed. I am thankful for the program every day and Pray the success of this program continues. Blessed mother of teen challenge graduate.
That was seven years ago for me, and my life hasn't been the same! I graduated the program in 2010. Since then God restored my relationship with my family completely! The loving staff and directors were always willing to invest in me, and it was through their dedication that I realized God's love for me and that He had a plan for my life. Now I'm serving in full time ministry and I am able to give back! Thank you Teen Challenge!
Teen Chalange is a place where God's presence dwells. I felt safe and loved from the moment I stepped onto their campus. It's humbling to have had the opportunity to witness such an incredible team of leaders working together for the growth of each girl. They are passionate about what they do and it's clear that they care so much about each one. I'm so thankful for this ministry and for the many lives they are touching. May God continue to blesses the work of their labor.
